Maggam/Aari embroidery on Saree blouse using sequins(chamki)
In this tutorial I am going to explain how to embellish your embroidery patterns using sequins/chamki and the normal aari chain stitches. Get ready with your embroidery materials.
Materials needed:
Embroidery hoop loaded with your fabric choice.
Silk or Zari thread that suits your embroidery pattern.
Aari embroidery needle.
Sequins of your choice to match your fabric or embroidery pattern.
Now first step is to load the fabric in your embroidery hoop (or aari frame if you have one). Aari/Maggam frame is not necessary at this point as you are learning just the stitches, you will need one if you are working on some big projects like sarees. Okay, now after loading the fabric, have your sequins ready next to you. Now start the Aari Chain stitich with a knot in the begining, hold the Silk Embroidery thread or Zari thread on your left hand and bring it under the frame while holding the aari embroidery needle on your right hand at the top of your frame where your embroidery design is drawn. Finish your first Aari chain stitch as usual and when doing the second chain stitch after pulling the thread up remove the Aari needle from the loop and pick a sequin in the Aari needle. Again with the sequin/chamki loaded in the Aari Embroidery needle (you have to hold the sequin with your finger), then hold the loop with the tip of the Aari needle hook, now drop the sequin from your finger, it will slide down to the fabric and set in place. Now you can finish your Aari chain stitch as usual. Do one more Aari chain stitch, then one with sequin, continue with this pattern. You can also do with the sequins continuously without doing chain stitches in between. Using this technique you can Custom Embroider any of your apparels and do some embellishments to your Embroidery designs and add elegance to any projects. Happy Stitching, keep practicing.
Here is my video tutorial for Custom Aari Embroidery using sequin on Saree blouse,
Recently I was busy with my kids and could not update my Maggam embroidery blog and I decided to come up with my recent work today. Yes, I made a Princess Dress for my lovely daughter. It took me like 3 days to finish this design alone. In this Maggam Embroidery I simply did aarichain stitches along with sequins and bead work.
This design is for hand and neck border.
Here you can see the aari chain stitches, stone work, bead work and sequin work. This aari patch is for neck border.
Here are the Maggam patches I made for hands, using simple chain stiches, some bead work, and kichu-kichu (chains with lot of curves) and some random sequins to give elegant touch.
I selected hot pink for this Princess Dress (pink is my daughter's favorite color) and cream with gold dual tone for the top part. It came out really good. I am just posting my Aari work/Maggam work here. It took me a lot of time, but when I saw the end product, really it is worth for my hard work and time. I was so happy to give it to my girl, home made by mommy with love is its speciality.
My next post is how to do sequin work using Aari/Maggam stitiches.
In my previous post I explained about doing aari chain stitches in Maggam Embroidery. Today I would like to add some samples of how to practice these stitches. Here I am giving some embroidery patterns for practice.
By practicing these embroidery patterns you will be able to do chain stitches in forward, reverse and all directions. You can also try a simple embroidery design like the picture below to make your first Aari/Maggam Embroidery in blouses with your simple aari chain stitches.
Finally after a long time I got a pleasant afternoon to post my new Aari Embroidery Stitch. Here I will explain how to do chain stitches in sharp ends. I am posting a video tutorial to explain
